This episode of The Weekly Docket with Steve Zappala hits on key topics like labor and education.

Zappala sits down with Sylvia Wilson, whose community involvement includes work with the school board, the Allegheny/Fayette Labor Council, and the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN).

Zappala and Wilson discuss the Pittsburgh labor force and how they strive to bring more people into the city’s thriving workforce. Specifically, they discuss concerns with misclassifying workers, a problem which keeps workers from receiving workers’ compensation and proper benefits.

In addition to their discussions on Pittsburgh’s workforce, Zappala and Wilson talk about Pittsburgh schools and safety measures that have been enacted, including metal detectors and virtual security.

They also commended the work of Pittsburgh Promise, which is allowing more Pittsburgh students to earn a college education.
